Manitoba Hydro Awards for Indigenous Students
Manitoba Hydro supports the youth of Manitoba in pursuit of academic excellence. Our Educational Funding Program offers specific awards to Indigenous Students in Grades 9 - 12.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
The application link will open on our Awards, scholarships & bursaries website for the following awards between April 7 to July 15, 2025.
- There is only 1 application for all high school awards.
- If a student qualifies for more than 1 award, they do not need to fill out the online application multiple times.
- The application can be completed on a desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet (accessible formats are available upon request).
- Students are no longer required to include a formal cover letter.
- Students must upload a resumé, transcript, and proof of Indigenous ancestry within the application.
1. Northern Student Award (3 awards of $300):
We offer $300 awards to 3 Indigenous students.
- Students must be in grades 9-12 and living north of the 53rd parallel.
- Academic performance, personal achievements, and other accomplishments are considered.
How to apply
- Complete the online application form that will be available on our website starting on April 7: Northern Student Award
- Select “Apply for Funding”
- Upload a resumé, transcript, and proof of Indigenous ancestry with the application.
The application deadline is July 15.
2. Physics Award (1 award of $200):
We offer a $200 award to 1 Indigenous student.
- Students must be from Fox Lake, Nelson House, Split Lake, War Lake, or York Factory communities.
- Students must be enrolled in Physics 30S or 40S.
- Academic performance, community involvement, and career interests are considered.
How to apply

- Select “Apply for Funding”
- Upload a resumé, transcript, and proof of Indigenous ancestry with the application.
The application deadline is July 15.
3. Trio Award:
We offer 3 awards to 3 Indigenous students.
- Students must have academic performance or demonstrated improvement (by grade) in the completion of Mathematics (Applied or Pre-calculus only), English, and the required level of Science:
- $200 award for Grade 10 (20S Math, English, and 20F Science);
- $300 award for Grade 11 (30S Math, English, and Physics);
- $500 award for Grade 12 (40S Math, English, and Physics).

- Select “Apply for Funding”
- Upload a resumé, transcript, and proof of Indigenous ancestry with the application.
The application deadline is July 15.
To be considered, students must include all required documentation listed on the application.
